Lysicrates Monument

This one is the only sponsored monument which is maintained uncorrupted until today and has been established as an emblem of Plaka area. It was built by sponsor Lysicrates (334 BC) in Corinthian order. A copper tripod with a boiler was the award acquired by the sponsor, the winner of the theatrical competition and was set gilded on a monument in memory of his victory. Since 1669 until the siege of Kioutachis (1826-1827) Lysicrates' monument was the decoration of the convent of the French capuchins at first as a chapel and afterwards as a library.
