Ancient Municipality of Koili

diateichisma

Koili was spreading from the elevations of Pnyka, outside the contemporary diateichisma (wall), and reached up to the southwestern of the hill. Until the 4th century BC it was one of the most densely habited locations of Ancient Athens. When the new diateichisma (wall) was built during the last quarter of the 4th century BC the municipality was abandoned and in the beginning of the 2nd century BC it was turned into a wide cemetery.
