In the middle of the Aegean Sea, facing the enchanting slopes of Mount Pelion on the mainland, lies the island of Skiathos. Together with Skopelos, Alonissos, Skyros and other smaller islands it forms part of the northern Sporades, one of the loveliest island groups in Greece with a particular charm and many attractions. The island is mainly mountainous covered with thick woods of plane and walnut trees, olive trees and pines. Koukounaries’ sparkling beach has taken its name from the abundance of umbrella pines which almost reach the sea.

Skiathos is visited by hundreds of tourists every year and especially during the summer the island is practically crowded. One of Skiathos’ main attractions are its beaches, long and sandy or pebbly with the most amazing shades of blue and green that you have ever imagined. Although the island is full of people one is able to find quiet spots to enjoy the calmness and the beauty of the magical scenery. As far as nightlife is concerned there are plenty of bars and cafes along with traditional restaurants offering local dishes and tasty Greek food.

There are three ways to get to Skiathos

By plane from Athens in 40 minutes.

By car to Agios Konstantinos port (1,5 hour from Athens) and then by high speed (1,5 hour). From Thessaloniki to Volos port by car (1,5 hour) and then taking the high speed (1,5 hour).

Koukounaries beach is among the most popular of Skiathos for a good reason. Long and sandy, it is described as the most unspoiled natural beach in the Mediterranean. The beach is protected and has been developed for ecotourism with co-financing by the municipality and the European Union. In this part of the island are to be found most of the hotels, rooms to rent, restaurants, tavernas, night clubs, tennis courts, volleyball courts and various water sports facilities and equipment (water skis, windsurfing, paddle boats, motor boats, etc.).
