Lixouri Kefalonia
The locals call their town small Paris because it is divided in two parts by a stream called Sikouanas. The romantic and gracious atmosphere of the past, before the occurrence of the earthquake is still evident.
The carnival of Lixouri
The Lixourians are famous for their humour and their carnival which dates back a long time. In the cities new characteristics have been added to the festivities of the carnival while in the villages it is maintained traditional as it was in the past. Even when there were financial difficulties in 1966 the carnival didn't stop occurring since the Lixourians were gathering money at a small safe usually used in the old churches of Eptanisa. Even today the carnival is a personal issue of all the Lixourians and it attracts hundreds of visitors from Kefalonia and the rest of Greece as well.
